Today, 10 October 2022, is World Mental Health Day. The theme for this year is “make mental health and wellbeing a global priority.” Across the world, the mental health of workers is vital to building individual, business, and economic wealth, and it must be a priority for all employers. Taking steps to promote mental health, and protect and support the mental health of workers, needs more than just the HR department or individual managers. Senior leadership must be involved to make sure conversations about mental health happen at board level.
The WHO has recently released guidelines on the topic. It is a lengthy but important read and provides evidence-based recommendations to address mental health in the workplace. More information can be found here: https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240053052
