Update on End of Longest US Government Shutdown

1 mins read 13/11/2025

The United States Congress has enacted, and President Trump has signed into law, a short-term appropriations measure that provides funding for federal agencies through January 30, 2026.

The majority of immigration-related functions either remained operational during the recent government shutdown or have since been reinstated. Nevertheless, additional guidance from the federal government is anticipated regarding the appropriate procedures for addressing employment-based immigration filings affected by the month-long interruption in the Department of Labor’s operations during the shutdown.

Further appropriations legislation will be required to sustain government operations beyond January 30, 2026. In the absence of such legislation, another lapse in funding—and a subsequent government shutdown—may occur should budget negotiations for Fiscal Year 2026 reach an impasse.
