Spotlight on EMEA Series: Israel

In our Spotlight on EMEA series, we round up the latest developments throughout the regions.  In this post we touch on the anticipated launch of the ETA-IL system for Israel.

What is the ETA-IL System?

The electronic travel authorisation for Israel is an online system to streamline visa process for international visitors to Israel.  It should remove the need for physically attending a consulate or embassy and speeds up the turnaround time for applications.  The exemption programme is aimed at those short term visitors who will not remain more than  90 days and will not be working or studying in Israel.  The clearance should be valid for a period of two years.

Launch of the ETA-IL System in January 2025

The Israeli Ministry of Interior announced that the start date of the Electronic Travel Authorization – Israel system (ETA-IL ) is now pushed out to January 2025. Previously, it was communicated that the system would go into effect on August 1, 2024.

There is very little detail as to why the rollout has been delayed but as the electronic process is designed to track the flow of visitors for security purposes, in addition to speeding up visa processes, it is anticipated that it will be fully rolled out in January 2025.
