Spotlight on EMEA Series: Ireland

Commencing on 2nd September 2024 the Irish Government has signed into legislation the Employment Permits Act 2024.

Employers should note these changes and ensure that they make the necessary adjustments for any impact on sponsored employees.  The changes are largely seen as positive and remove several administrative burdens for employers.  In a bid to ensure that employers in Ireland are able to remain compliant with immigration legislation and also attract foreign talent, making Ireland a more attractive country to work in and develop careers.

Key points re Resident Labour Market Test

Users who are currently considering submitting an application for an employment permit that requires a labour market needs test (LMNT) are advised to become familiar with the upcoming adjustment to the criteria. The new LMNT criteria will require the applicant to publish the vacancy notice both with the Department of Social Protection Jobs Ireland and EURES online employment services, and on a second online platform jointly for at least 28 days.
