Malaysia: Visa-free Travel Agreement with China Extended for Five Years

1 mins read 13/05/2025

In our spotlight on APAC series, we round up the latest developments across the region. In this post, we look at Malaysia to extend visa exemption with China by another five years as part of new reciprocal agreement with its current engagement set to expire by the end of this year. The initiative is expected to significantly boost tourism and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, with Malaysia already experiencing a rise in Chinese tourist arrivals.

Key Points:

  • Extension Duration – The visa-free travel agreement is extended for five years, with a possibility of further extension for another five years.

  • Reciprocity – The agreement is reciprocal whereby both Malaysian citizens and Chinese citizens can travel to each other’s country without a visa.

  • Duration of Stay – Malaysian citizens can stay in China visa-free for up to 90 days (up from the initial 30-day stay allowance), and Chinese tourists can stay in Malaysia for the same period.

  • Purpose of Travel – The visa-free entry is for business, tourism, and other non-immigrant purposes.
