In our spotlight on APAC series, we round up the latest developments from across Asia Pacific. In this post, we take a look at the new features introduced in the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) in Malaysia.
With effect from 01 July 2024, sponsoring companies of foreign workers can proceed to submit several additional applications via the ESD online platform. The deployment of the new features include:
- Amendment of approved application.
- Adjustment of pass duration.
- This applies when both employer and employee have a written agreement to shorten the employee’s contract duration and is required to updated to ESD accordingly.
- Cancellation of application.
- Transfer of endorsement (ToE)/ Take-up Balance (TuB).
- Permission to study.
- Permission to work at a second location.
The changes are to enhance the processing time for overall expatriate processes, as previously, only certain applications like Employment Pass (EP), Professional Visit Pass (PVP), Dependent’s Pass (DP) and Long-Term Social Visit Pass (LTVP) could be submitted online.
The newly effective online processing time from submission should take 3 calendar days. This is shorter compared to previously, when in person submissions were taking up to 5 working days.
Fees are not applied to online submissions, with the exception of the ToE and TuB applications.
