Department of State Introduces $750 Fee for Expedited B-1/B-2 Visa Interview Appointments

1 mins read 10/06/2026

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has issued a temporary final rule establishing a new $750 fee for expedited B 1/B 2 visitor visa interview appointments at designated U.S. consular posts.

The rule will take effect on 1 July 2026 and remain in place through 31 December 2026. Under this measure, applicants who elect to pay the additional fee will be able to secure a visa interview appointment within 10 business days, subject to availability at participating posts.

This initiative effectively creates a premium processing option for certain B 1/B 2 applicants, aimed at alleviating appointment backlogs and prioritising urgent travel needs. The expedited appointment fee is separate from, and in addition to, the standard non-immigrant visa application (MRV) fee of $185 USD, and it does not guarantee visa issuance.

At this stage, the rule applies only to selected consular locations, and availability may vary depending on local capacity and demand. The DOS has indicated that the programme is temporary and will be evaluated during the implementation period.
