On Wednesday 26 September 2012, our Annual UK/US Immigration Conference in association with British American Business Inc, took place at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London. A regular fixture in the transatlantic immigration calendar, the Conference brought together senior UK Border Agency officials and representatives from the US Embassy, London. Delegates included lawyers, HR Directors, global assignment heads, private wealth bankers and on international tax advisors.
Panellists included Jim Bligh, Head of Labour Market Policy, Confederation of British Industry; Bobby Duffy, MD Public Affairs, Ipsos MORI; Stephen Earl, Joint Head of Secretariat, Migration Advisory Committee; Sunder Katawala, Director British Future; Jeremy Oppenheimer, Director of Immigration and Settlement, UKBA; Claire Razzolini, Partner Gibney, Anthony & Flaherty; and David C Stewart, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs, US Embassy.
The conference was chaired by Chris Magrath, Senior Partner, Magrath LLP.
In addition to a vital update on the current UK and US immigration landscape, there was special focus on balancing the relationship between practical immigration policies and the need to popularise a pro-market environment for businesses. The impact that this has on national identity, particularly in the year of the Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 led to a stimulating panel discussion.
We are grateful to all those that participated for their insight.
