Sky scores again in fight over football broadcasts

Alavon Bar in Glasgow has received a penalty after the Edinburgh Court of Session held that Sky’s copyright was infringed when it screened a football match between Celtic and Ross County last August.

It was also held that the bar owners were in contempt of Court after breaching an interim order against screening Sky’s programmes without a licence.  As a result, Sky was awarded £7,000 in costs and damages.

The judgment is a further victory for Sky after the Old College Bar in Glasgow was ordered to pay £10,000 plus legal costs for showing matches without a commercial agreement.  To add insult to injury, the Old College Bar also had to fund the notices advertising the ruling.
