One Direction’s Harry Styles has won a Court Order which prevents the paparazzi from pursuing him in the street or ‘stalking’ him outside his home. The grant of the Order potentially sets a new precedent with regards to how the law can be used to control the paparazzi’s intrusive activities.
The injunction, issued by Mrs Justice Nicola Davies, bans (unnamed) photographers from pursuing the singer by car or motorcycle, placing him under surveillance, or loitering within 50 metres of his home to monitor his movements.
Mr Styles’ lawyer, David Sherborne, who has previously acted for celebrities such as Cheryl Cole, Lily Allen, Sienna Miller and the late Amy Winehouse stated that:
“This is not a privacy injunction. Mr Styles is not trying to prevent fans approaching him in the street and taking photographs. He remains happy to do that, as he always has. Rather, it is the method tactics which have been used by a certain type of photographer.”
