A non-beastly win against Monster Beverage Corp

The Beastie Boys have won monster damages of $1.7 million (£1.006 million) in their lawsuit against Monster Beverage Corp after the drinks company infringed their copyright by using several of their tracks in a promotional snowboarding video.

The jury awarded $120,000 (£71,000) for each of the ten violations of copyright committed by Monster Beverage Corp.  As we said in our original post (which you can read here) the Beastie Boys had originally claimed damages totalling $2 million.

As a result of the media interest in the case, Monster Beverage Corp has released a statement announcing that they do not agree with the level of damages awarded to the Beastie Boys and that they intend to appeal the ruling.
