“there’s always some bird crapping on me from above” – a diversity seminar quote. Seriously!

It seems that people really do not learn.  Yesterday during the course of a diversity seminar (and following a discussion about offensive slang) the trainer asked for examples of workplace behaviour that can cause tensions resulting in inappropriate language / behaviour.  In addition to the anticipated comments about flexible working being the prerogative of those with children and working parents being cut too much slack, one young male executive made the following (priceless) comment.  “It doesn’t seem to matter how hard I work, this pc [rubbish] means that women are always promoted over me to stop them claiming sex discrimination – so there is always some bird crapping on me from above”!  Witty maybe, stupid certainly – and he wonders why he’s not being promoted.
