Council’s employment decision guided by 3 year old!

This week the Times reported that a road sweeper dismissed by Waltham Forest Council was reemployed following a letter from a 3 year old boy!  It seems that 3 year old had befriended the road sweeper who “worked all the time, even when he was sick or the weather was bad”  and was upset when the council worker was dismissed.  The Times reported that the letter caused council bosses to realise that the road sweeper was one of “their best workers” !  It rather makes you wonder what criteria were used to select the road sweeper in the first instance and why it took a child to point out his work ethic.  I wonder whether he received back pay for the period of unemployment – given that the decision to re-instate suggests that the initial selection for dismissal may not have been entirely fair….?
