If you want to work in a partner led medium sized firm in the West End, where you are guaranteed hands on experience, excellent client contact and involvement in the growth of the firm, then Magrath could be the firm for you. If you want to work in the City, or if you want to work in a very large firm then Magrath is not the firm for you to apply to.
Why did our Trainees choose to apply to Magrath?
“I chose to train with Magrath LLP as I had heard good reviews about the firm such as its friendly atmosphere and open door policy. Magrath also provides a variety of services which suggested the training contract would be varied and interesting. “ Binny Deb Roy
The main factor that influenced my decision was the areas of law provided. I tailored my search to firms that did corporate immigration, but also other areas of law I would be interested in working in….Magrath places a lot of emphasis on clients, being straight-talking and I got the impression that personality counted for a lot here as compared to other firms and this was hugely important to me.” Samantha Prosser
“Overall, I joined the firm because I wanted training that was more individual to my career aims and where I could learn as much as I wanted. The size of a firm initially was key because you can really get to know everyone you work with and you do get additional responsibility. I wanted to work for a firm that would be interested in developing my skills and interests. Aside from this, the general feel of the firm was really important and from meeting people who work at Magrath and reading the profiles on the website, the impression given is of a friendly and encouraging atmosphere where people care about you as an individual and are keen for you to become part of the team.” Maria Krishnan
First hand reviews of the Magrath training contract
“There is an atmosphere of independence which requires the confidence to ask and volunteer at every opportunity. Being one of only 4 trainees in the firm means there are many opportunities to experience a variety of work. I get to manage files of my own. This has provided me with an excellent opportunity to see a matter mature right from the very beginning.” Binny Deb Roy
What can Magrath offer you?
- Varied training across the firm’s departments
The firm’s major disciplines are Business Immigration (rated first tier in both Chambers and Legal500) and Employment; Magrath also has well regarded Company Commercial, Property, Litigation teams and a well known Media department.
We provide high quality training that is designed to equip Trainees with the skills required to become effective commercial solicitors. Training is generally divided into four seats of six months duration each, covering a combination of: corporate immigration; employment & company/commercial (one seat); media & litigation (one seat) and property.
- Valued member of the firm
You will most likely be one of two trainees starting in your intake and therefore you will very quickly be welcomed as a member of the team. With a total staff of approximately 65 it will not be long before you know everybody by name. The regular firm hosted social events and after work drinks will ensure that you settle in quickly.
You will quickly become a valued member of whichever team you join. Your work may range from being at a completion meeting for an acquisition of a company to attending the UKBA offices, assisting with the running of tribunal and court claims, of a training programme for a client or preparing for an evening seminar at our offices.
At Magrath your training is not limited simply to carrying out standard “Trainee tasks” (although you will of course get a solid grounding of all areas you train in). You will be invited to take part in marketing events and attend external seminars. You will not be a glorified photocopier.
Pro-activeness is welcomed and you will be encouraged to join the firm’s internal committees or to be involved in different types of business development. The fact that you are a Trainee does not hold you back from getting as involved in the development and marketing of the firm as the qualified fee earners.
- Support during your training contract
Trainees’ progress is closely monitored throughout the training contract. Trainees are each assigned a training principal and a mentor. Our aim is to build on your natural talents and to develop these into the attributes required to make a highly effective, business focused lawyer, whatever area you ultimately decide to specialise in.
We pay for and assist you to arrange your Professional Skills Course, and you will also be given the opportunity to attend in-house skills-based training programs designed to enhance business, technical and client care skills. In addition, you will be encouraged to attend seminars run for clients should they be complementary to your training.
