On 7 March 2007, the Minister of Immigration, Citizenship & Nationality published the findings of the consultation paper, 'A Consultation on a New Charging Regime for Immigration & Nationality Fees'. As a result of the findings of the consultation, a new charging regime will be introduced for immigration and nationality fees for both in-country applications and out-of-country entry clearance applications.

The new charging model aims to “balance the Immigration & Nationality Directorate’s immigration services and the entitlements attached to these with the many benefits that legal migration brings to the United Kingdom.”

The proposed fees for for immigration and nationality applications will be set before Parliament in the near future. It is expected that these new fees will be effective from 1 April 2007.
